How to Help Your Plants Beat the Heat

Just like humans, plants also suffer the effects of dehydration during high temperatures. Here are a few tips to help your plants survive and thrive in the hot weather:

1.Water Correctly
This is the best way to help plants to maximize the amount of moisture they can absorb. Ensure water has sunk in sufficiently and adequately into the earth to be absorbed through the roots. This is best done by trickling it at the base of the root.

2.Mulching
This will greatly enhance your efforts when watering the base of your plants. Mulching keeps the soil damp for a longer time by locking in that moisture. It also helps to prevent weeds from popping up.

3.Fertilize Early
In preparation of the inevitable hot summer, one should fertilize the soil around the plants more to boost root growth and attract worms. The roots will boost absorption of moisture and increased worm activity will aerate the soil making it easier for water to penetrate.

4.Weeding
It is a good idea to keep up with your weeding. Weeds tend to hog water from plants and block roots. Ensure weeds are cleared to improve your plants access to water.
